  • Frevo - An early popular North-eastern carnival style which features a March-like quality. The Frevo is closely related to the samba, and has grown and adapted into a more modern sound. Frevo is most popular in Pernambuco state, especially in Recife.

  • Samba - Samba is the most famous of the various forms of music arising from African roots in Brazil. Men and women dance samba differently and together yet without touching. The dance for the women can be characterized as quick symmetrical feet movement with each foot twisting on the heel. This foot movement is accompanied by hip and shoulder gyrations creating a dance that agitates the entire body.


  • Amazon dance (caboclinho) - Word in Portuguese to designate the offsprings of the union between a person of mixed Brazilian Indian and European ancestry. That’s probably Brazil’s oldest dance style. Its first record appeared in 1584. This native dance represents the harmony between the brazilian Indian and its environment.





  • Danca do coco - A contemporary Afro-Bahian pop style, incorporating samba, rock, soul and other musical influences.
